SERMON:

Pastor Scott Landis
Sunday Morning (04.18.21):
"Yet to be Revealed"

Pastoral Update from Pastor Scott Landis
April 16, 2021

Aloha Keawala’i ‘ohana

The season known as “Eastertide” was a time of continuing revelation to the first century disciples and to we who “witness” to the risen Christ today. “Witnessing” is not a comfortable word for many of us in the United Church of Christ. We tend toward privacy when it comes to our religious practices and are often skeptical of those who speak openly about their faith as “evangelical” or “conservative” whatever that means. Yet Jesus challenges us to witness what we believe – what is being revealed.

Our scripture passages today have us returning to the locked room where the disciples hid out of fear. Luke’s recollection is slightly different from John, but the same message is given – go and tell! The epistle lesson reminds us that God’s revelation – even in our own lives – is one of constant change. How do we live as disciples today? How do we share our story – one that is continually evolving and changing as society changes?

Please join us for worship by going to our church website www.keawalai.org and clicking on the blue Vimeo button to join the livestream at 10 a.m. HST.

To assist your participation, please print out this week’s order of worship and create a sacred space in your home, your own kuahu. I invite you to bring an offering (lūlū) for a time of dedication and blessing. Please note: Online giving is available to you. All you need to do is go to our church website www.keawalai.org and click on the donate now button. You can do this anytime. It takes only a few minutes to set up your profile for a one-time or recurring gift. You can also still send a check to the church. Mahalo for your generosity and support.

Please send me any prayer requests you have for our pule in this Sunday’s worship. Requests can be sent to keawalaichurch@gmail.com or call the church office at 808-879-5557.

You can also email me at slandis1955@gmail.com. I hold these prayer requests in my personal prayer and will offer them during the service as well.

I also hope you will join us for Aloha Hour this week on Zoom following worship. The link for Aloha Hour is:

We continue to meet weekly in our KCC Zoom Room on Wednesday’s at 11. Consider joining us (again or for the first time) this week. We will send out another email early next week with the link and instructions. Wednesday Zoom Room is a great time to prepare for worship the following Sunday as we spend some time thinking about the theme for the week.

The Church Council, Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees continue to meet regularly, in part, to discuss our plans to reopen for public worship. More and more are receiving their vaccines and our numbers seem to be stabilizing. We are seeing signs of hope, but we want to reopen in a way that is safe for everyone. I am so grateful for your patience and support as we navigate these interesting times. We all thought by this time we would be in worship together singing hymns, sharing communion, praying, hugging, and enjoying each other’s company in a face-to-face Aloha Hour. It feels like that day is not far away – but we’re not there yet. The Church Council will meet on April 26 to determine next steps in reopening. May you remain faithful throughout this extended period of uncertainty and may God’s blessing be upon you and your loved ones for patience and health in the coming days.

Me ke aloha o ke Akua,

Scott Landis, Interim Pastor
